What Is Medical Office Administration?
Medical office professionals play a key role in the daily function of healthcare facilities, handling administrative tasks. These professionals are not responsible for direct patient care but may have some contact with patients through scheduling and data entry.
Medical office administrators are skilled in several aspects of the operations within a medical facility, including but not limited to the following:
- Medical Billing
- Basic Medical Coding
- Data Entry
- HIPAA Laws
- Medical Records Management
- Use of Medical Systems
- Medical Terminology
- Appointment Scheduling
Medical office training can lead to vast career opportunities in hospitals, medical facilities, private practices, clinics, laboratories, and more. The skills and knowledge a medical office administrator receives in their training prepare them to keep the medical facility in which they work running smoothly behind the scenes.
East Ohio College’s Medical Office Administration Program
EOC’s Medical Office Administration program combines virtual classroom instruction, online labs, an externship experience, and certification* preparation to provide each student with a well-rounded education.
Our online/hybrid training model allows students to complete their courses and virtual simulation labs from the comfort of their own homes at the best time for them. This is an excellent option for busy students who must balance family and work with their education.
Then, toward the end of the program, the East Ohio College career management team will assist the student in arranging an externship experience with a real-world employer to help solidify their skills and gain experience in the field.
Throughout their training, students will also be preparing to sit for the National Healthcareer Association’s Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification* exam. Sitting for and passing this exam, combined with their associate degree and externship experience, demonstrates to employers that students meet nationally recognized standards of competency and skill in their field.
