Meet Nursing Student Jorden Webb
Jorden Webb is a nursing student at East Ohio College. She is a 2022 graduate of Heartland Christian School, and she graduated as the valedictorian of her class. When asked if she had ever attended college, she said, “I took an online college course during high school, but it was very different compared to being on a campus four days a week. I was not able to make the personal connections with others that I do now.” When asked about what she did before deciding to attend East Ohio College, she said, “I was a high school student and athlete. I played sports year-round, was in the band, and participated in as many clubs and activities as I could. I wanted to make the most out of my high school experience.”
Jorden’s reasoning behind choosing East Ohio College was because of the location and the atmosphere. “I wanted to attend college somewhere that was close to home. It is close enough that I am able to commute to class every day, which allows me to still be able to spend time with my family. I did not want to miss out on being able to go to my younger sister’s sports games and band concerts. I also liked that during the whole admission process, the staff made me feel like I was not just a statistic.” When asked why she chose the Nursing program, she explained, “I have always wanted to be a nurse. Both my parents are nurses, so it is something that I have always been exposed to. I also really like to help others, and I enjoy the science aspect of things.”
Jorden Webb says that her favorite parts of attending East Ohio College are the class size and the personalization. “My graduating class only had twenty-four students. I knew that attending a large university was just not for me. I really enjoy getting to know each person in my class and being able to have different experiences with each of them. I also like that if I need help with anything, all I have to do is ask, and the instructors will do whatever they can to help.” When asked about her favorite teacher, she said, “I really like all the teachers, but my favorite is Mr. Delekta. He always made sure that we understood the material while still having fun. He was always willing to come in early and have review sessions for any class, even if it was not one that he taught.”
She says her ideal job after graduation is working in the emergency room. “I like that fast-paced environment and thrive on chaos. I want to work somewhere that is always different, and you never know what you are going to see next.” When asked where she would like her life to be in five years, she said, “I would like to be at a job that I really enjoy and have a solid, stable relationship.” Jorden says that she would definitely refer a friend to East Ohio College. “I think that East Ohio College is a great choice. The staff wants to see everyone succeed, and they really care about how prepared you are to go out into the workforce.” When asked about her hobbies and interests, she said. “I have always really enjoyed school. Outside of school, I like playing volleyball with my younger sister. I also like participating in the work-study program in Building 1. We have a lot of fun.”
