Jennifer Drabick – Student Highlight

Meet Jennifer Drabick!

Jennifer Drabick’s path into healthcare began long before she ever set foot into the Nursing program at East Ohio College (EOC). Her earliest experience in the field started in South Carolina, where she earned her phlebotomy certification. That program not only gave her valuable hands-on skills but also sparked her passion for patient care. It was during that time that Jennifer realized healthcare was more than a career option; it was where she belonged.

As she continued exploring the world of emergency services, Jennifer pursued additional training as both a firefighter and EMT. She eventually joined the East Palestine Fire Department, where she still works part-time as an EMT. Her work there remains one of the most meaningful parts of her life. Helping her community during some of its most vulnerable moments has shaped her approach to patient care and strengthened her desire to continue growing in the medical field.

Finding the Right Program

Since she was already balancing work and community service, finding the right nursing program required more than academic rigor. Jennifer needed flexibility, understanding, and a school that supported working students. That search led her to EOC. The program’s class schedules offered some flexibility, allowing her to continue working as an EMT, which was non-negotiable for her. This adaptability made it possible for her to move forward with her education without putting her livelihood on hold.

What stood out to Jennifer immediately was not just the structure but the supportive environment created by the staff and instructors. She felt welcomed, valued, and supported from the very beginning. The program’s timeline also appealed to her, allowing her to complete her degree efficiently while continuing to work. To Jennifer, this combination of convenience, organization, and genuine care made East Ohio College the perfect fit.

One of the highlights of Jennifer’s experience has been the intense dedication of her instructors. She often says that the teachers at EOC are the heart of the program. Their commitment to student learning and success is unmistakable. They make students feel seen and supported, and they foster an atmosphere where every individual is encouraged to grow into the best nurse they can be.

Jennifer’s favorite instructor, Mrs. Bednarek, has played a vital role in her journey. Jennifer describes her as the first teacher she has ever had who truly went out of her way to ensure she received the education, guidance, and confidence she needed. Whether Jennifer was struggling with a skill or feeling discouraged after a difficult grade, Mrs. Bednarek consistently stepped in with support and reassurance. Her encouragement has been one of the driving forces behind Jennifer’s success in the program, and Jennifer credits much of her progress to this meaningful mentorship.

Jennifer Discovers Her Passion

While progressing through her coursework, Jennifer discovered a deep interest in women’s health, particularly labor and delivery. She had always been fascinated by the idea of working in this specialty, but after completing the class, her interest became a clear direction for her future. She found the content inspiring and felt drawn to the unique privilege of helping bring new life into the world. Her dream is to work as a labor and delivery nurse or postpartum nurse after graduation, where she can be part of those intimate, life-changing moments for families. Eventually, she hopes to continue her education and earn her BSN.

Jennifer believes strongly in the value of East Ohio College’s nursing training program that she has already referred a friend, who is now enrolled as well. She encourages anyone considering nursing school to take a close look at the program, especially working adults who need some flexibility without sacrificing support or academic quality. She emphasizes that students are not treated as numbers. They are seen, supported, and guided by a staff that genuinely cares about their success.

Jennifer openly acknowledges that the program can be demanding. It is challenging, time-consuming, and at times overwhelming. But she also believes it is incredibly rewarding. Passing exams, building clinical skills, and gaining friendships with classmates all make the difficult moments worthwhile. She would tell any future student that obstacles are part of the journey, but with determination and the right support, anything is achievable.
