What Is The TEAS Exam?
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam is a standardized test designed by the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) to determine a potential student’s readiness for a health sciences program. Institutions often require passing scores on the TEAS exam for admission to a nursing training program, including the Nursing program at East Ohio College. Ensuring you are prepared for the exam is crucial to beginning your nursing education.
The TEAS exam assesses students in four key areas: Mathematics, Science, Reading, and English and Language Usage. Test-takers are expected to answer a mix of 170 multiple-choice, hot spot, fill-in-the-blank, ordered response, or multiple-select questions within a time limit of three hours and twenty-nine minutes.
Why You Should Prepare For The TEAS Exam
Preparing for the TEAS exam through a structured course has numerous benefits. These include improved test scores, establishing a solid foundation for nursing school, boosting confidence, reducing test anxiety, and more. A TEAS preparation course provides students with study guides and practice quizzes, enabling them to build a solid knowledge base before the exam. Familiarity with the exam’s structure can also help alleviate test anxiety during the actual exam.
The TEAS exam is a crucial first step in the nursing admissions process. Passing scores are required to enroll in East Ohio College’s Nursing program, and preparing for the exam beforehand can help potential students avoid spending time and money taking the exam multiple times to achieve passing scores. A TEAS prep course is designed to give you the knowledge needed to pass the exam and begin your nursing education journey without the delay of taking the test several times.
WVJC Online’s Free TEAS Prep Course
Now that you understand the importance of preparing for the TEAS exam, the next step is determining what prep course fits your needs. East Ohio College’s sister school, WVJC Online, offers a free course for aspiring EOC School of Nursing students to help them prepare for the TEAS exam.
The four-week course is completed virtually, allowing students to study for the exam on their own time. Once enrolled, students have access to online study guides, quizzes, and other resources and can attend virtual meetings with the instructor to ask specific questions and receive further assistance.
After graduation, high school students who plan to enroll in the East Ohio College Nursing program can attend a 30-minute nursing workshop hosted by WVJC Online to learn more about their nursing education. Once the workshop has been completed, they can enroll directly into the TEAS Prep course to prepare for and take the exam before graduation. This allows them to be ready to begin nursing school immediately after graduating high school.
Adult students also have the opportunity to enroll in the TEAS Prep course by going through the nursing admissions process at East Ohio College. The prospective student will complete an initial phone call and an interview with an EOC nursing admissions team member to determine if the program is right for the student. Then, if the student is recommended for admission, they will register to take the TEAS exam at a discounted rate of $35. Upon taking the test, the student’s admissions team member will review any areas of deficiency and enroll the student in the appropriate section of the TEAS Prep course at no cost. For example, if a student needs to improve their score in the science section of the exam, they will enroll only in the science portion of the prep course. Once the student has completed the necessary sections of the prep course, they can register to retake the TEAS exam at no additional cost.
