Meet Dustin!
Dustin Blankenship’s path to East Ohio College (EOC) was shaped by his commitment to higher education and his desire to help students create better futures. With extensive experience in postsecondary education, Dustin was drawn to the institution because of its career-focused programs, supportive environment, and student-centered mission.
“What attracted me to East Ohio College was the opportunity to be part of an institution that genuinely cares about its students,” Dustin said. “The work we do can change the direction of a student’s life, and I wanted to contribute to that mission.” Continue reading this blog to learn more about Dustin’s journey and role at EOC.
Compliance Through Collaboration
As Director of Compliance, Dustin helps ensure that EOC meets the regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards. His responsibilities include reviewing academic policies and procedures, monitoring departmental practices, supporting accreditation activities, assisting with program development, and helping faculty and staff understand the requirements that guide their work. Although much of compliance takes place behind the scenes, Dustin emphasized that it directly affects students and their educational experiences.
“Compliance is about much more than checking boxes or following regulations,” he explained. “It is about keeping our promises to students, maintaining the integrity of our programs, and ensuring that the institution has a strong foundation for continued success.”
Dustin approaches compliance as a collaborative responsibility. He works with employees throughout the institution to identify practical solutions, strengthen processes, and protect the college’s ability to fulfill its mission. At the center of that work is a consistent concern for how institutional decisions affect students.
Serving the Community
His commitment to service also extends into the community through his volunteer work with Osiris Shriners. Dustin supports the organization’s community activities, as he formerly served as an Associate Board Member at Shriners Children’s Ohio, and is actively involved with the Shriners 5K. The event brings together runners, volunteers, sponsors, and community members while raising awareness of the Shriners and their service to others.
“The Shriners 5K is special because it creates an opportunity for people to support a meaningful cause while participating in a positive community event,” Dustin said. “It is rewarding to see so many people come together with a shared desire to serve others.”
Learning Alongside Our Students
In addition to his professional and volunteer responsibilities, Dustin is also an online graduate student. He already earned a bachelor’s in History from Concord University, and a Master of Public Administration and Doctor of Jurisprudence from West Virginia University. Now, as a professional nontraditional student, he is completing a Master of Business Administration at University of the People and pursuing a PhD in Public Policy and Administration at Walden University where he is about to begin the dissertation phase.
As a first generation college student and graduate from “the holler,” Dustin has a unique understanding of and appreciation for our students. Balancing graduate education with his career and community involvement has strengthened his understanding of the challenges faced by adult and online learners.
“Being a student while working full time helps me remain connected to what our students experience,” he said. “Many of them are balancing their education with careers, families, and personal responsibilities. Their determination motivates me to make sure they receive the support and educational experience they deserve.”
Supporting Students at EOC
For Dustin, each policy reviewed, process improved, and accreditation standard maintained contributes to a larger purpose. “I care deeply about our students and the mission of East Ohio College,” he said. “Knowing that my work helps students pursue their goals and build better lives is what makes this role meaningful.”
By helping maintain academic standards while staying connected to the experiences of today’s students, he plays an important role in supporting our students both inside and outside the classroom.
