Celebrating Behind The Scenes Office Heroes: Administrative Professionals!

April 23rd, 2025, is National Administrative Professionals’ Day!

Administrative professionals are essential team members for offices across the country. Their roles often include performing behind-the-scenes tasks that ensure the office runs smoothly. Administrative Professionals’ Day has a long history of recognition; it was acknowledged as a national recognition day in 1952.
Administrative Professionals’ Day

Three individuals brought the idea of Administrative Professionals Day to life: Mary Barrett, C. King Woodbridge, and Harry F. Klemfuss. The trio held administrative positions and were passionate about shedding light on the hard work of office administrators everywhere. Since its establishment, the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) has sponsored this recognition day.

In this blog, East Ohio College (EOC) will highlight the crucial work that administrative professionals do and showcase our two pathways to this essential career field: our Medical Office Administration program and our Business Administration program!

What Do Administrative Professionals Do?

Administrative professionals are often the unsung heroes of an office or team. They must be well-versed in soft skills, including critical thinking, communication, adaptability, and multitasking. They are problem solvers who keep their offices running smoothly and efficiently.

The tasks an administrative professional may be responsible for vary based on their work environment. For example, a medical office administrator’s tasks might include scheduling patient appointments, handling insurance billing, managing inventory, and more. Because of this, office administrators must be skilled, knowledgeable, and prepared to take on a variety of duties.

Their hard work behind the scenes directly benefits their team members and the community they serve, but it also helps to shape a positive and flourishing work culture. The office is like a well-oiled machine, and administrative professionals are to thank for its smooth operations.

How To Recognize Their Hard Work

National Administrative Professionals’ Day is more than another recognition day; it is an opportunity to thank and show appreciation for those who keep offices running smoothly nationwide. Below are a few ways to show appreciation for these hardworking individuals who are the heart of an office.

  • Give a personalized card.

Getting the team together to give the office administrator a personalized card, like these from Hallmark, can be a great way to show appreciation for their hard work.

  • Take them out to lunch.

Another way to show appreciation for office administrators is to take them to lunch or order food from their favorite restaurant.

  • Share their achievements.

Recognizing the hard work of administrative professionals can be done in several ways, such as sharing their accomplishments and stories on company newsletters, blogs, or social media.

National Administrative Professionals’ Day is about letting the office administrators in your life know that their hard work is recognized and that they are seen.
