What Does Accredited Mean?
Accreditation is the process by which an educational program is independently reviewed and evaluated by a third-party agency against established industry standards. Colleges whose programs receive accreditation are determined to have met the set levels of academic standards. Students who attend these programs are acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their careers.
EOC is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), which makes it eligible to award associate degrees and diplomas. Since 1969, the US Secretary of Education has recognized ABHES as an independent accrediting agency. The registration number is Oh. Reg. #1555B.
East Ohio College is also approved by the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools, which means that the institution complies with the standards set by the Ohio Revised Code Chapter 3332. Additionally, EOC’s Nursing programs have been granted full approval by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
What does it mean for a college to be accredited?
EOC recognizes the benefits of attending an accredited institution and the importance of obtaining a quality education. Students apply the skills they learned in their education to their careers, so knowing that a program has been evaluated and approved by a third-party agency offers peace of mind that the courses meet industry standards. According to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, students who attend accredited programs may be eligible for some state and federal loans or grants.
What programs can students complete online?
At East Ohio College, flexibility and balance are important factors for many students when choosing a program. Our online and online/hybrid training programs include nursing, medical assisting, medical office administration, medical coding, dental assisting, cybersecurity, and business administration. Each program offers students unique opportunities to complete their coursework online and prepare for industry certifications.
EOC’s online/hybrid Nursing program requires students to complete lectures and coursework online, while their in-person labs and clinicals provide the necessary practical experience. Students will acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in the following areas: IV insertion, trauma care, advanced cardiac life support, and other relevant topics. Upon graduation, graduates will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN^ exam.
Clinical Medical Assistant and Dental Assisting students benefit from a blended learning approach that combines some flexibility offered by online coursework with in-person clinical days designed to reinforce essential skills and build confidence. By the end of the medical assisting training program, students will have learned skills, including phlebotomy, EKGs, and lab tests, and will be prepared to sit for NHA’s Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)*, Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)**, and Certified EKG Technician (CET) exams. Students who complete the dental assisting training program gain skills, including developing x-rays, mixing dental cement, and applying sterilization and disinfection techniques. They may sit for the Nationally Registered Credentialed Dental Assistant (NRCDA)* certification exam.
Medical Office Administration is an excellent option for students seeking a career in the medical field that offers a behind-the-scenes perspective. In two years or less, students will learn essential skills to succeed in an administrative role and be eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)** certification exam.
The medical coding training program prepares students to play a vital role on a healthcare team by connecting healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies. Students develop skills in areas such as CPT and ICD-10-CM, billing, medical terminology, health information management, and more. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC)* certification exam.
EOC’s Business Administration program prepares students for opportunities to create rewarding careers in various industries. Students in the business administration program will learn skills including marketing, sales, accounting, and business operations through both the curriculum and an externship.
How can industry certifications help students?
Industry certifications* show potential employers that you have learned the skills needed to be successful in your career. Obtaining an online degree but having a certification in your industry will prove that you have learned the information and can apply it in a real-world setting.
Another benefit of obtaining a certification and degree from East Ohio College is that students will complete their programs in two years or less, rather than attending a traditional college for four to six years. Graduates with certifications and real-world experience could have a competitive advantage when entering the workforce.
